Massage therapy and craniosacral therapy are individually effective, and together they complement each other and are powerfully restorative. Massage relaxes, improves circulation, blood flow, flexibility, range of motion, and works with soft tissue, while Craniosacral balances the nervous system – it's like having a massage from the inside out.
The Feldenkrais Method® involves the practice of directing one’s focused attention to sensations felt through movement in order to identify and shift undesirable musculoskeletal patterns that cause discomfort, weakness, tension and chronic pain.
Together, we will design each session based on our intake consultation and your desired outcome and comfort level.
Massage therapy helps you relax, re-align and rejuvenate. It fosters an overall feeling of relaxation and well being. Restorative Massage on the Hill offers a unique combination of massage styles that are tailored to your specific needs, including deep tissue, Thai, myofascial release, reflexology, and craniosacral therapy.
Prenatal Massage Therapy
Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, constipation, indigestion, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling). We utilize a comfortable, secure side-lying position. Mothers are completely supported by pillows, aligning the body so that blood and lymph circulation are maximized. Gentle Swedish, deep tissue in the gluteal area, range of motion and gentle stretching, abdominal massage, acupressure, reflexology techniques, as well as craniosacral therapy are integrated into the treatment.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle form of bodywork that helps to release tension held deep within the nervous system so that the rest of the body can relax and start to heal from the inside out. This hands-on therapy is non-invasive and non-manipulative, practiced as taught by Franklyn Sills, and focuses on the “inherent ordering principal,” meaning that each person is born with a “blueprint of perfect health” that remains with us our entire lives, and around which our cellular and tissue world organizes. Resistances and congestion, caused by experiences such as traumas and injuries and influenced by genetics, cause the tissue and fluid relationships of the body to lead to pain and dysfunction.
The practitioner listens for and assists the client’s inherent healing intelligence to reconnect with its state of balanced health already available.
THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD®
THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD® is a system of educating the brain and nervous system through movement. Contrary to popular belief, it is your brain and nervous system — not your muscles — that determine the health of your posture and the ease and comfort of your movement.
The work we do on the table together is designed around each client’s individual needs or difficulties. During a session a clients often gain insight into their habitual patterns of tension relating to a specific movement, and also how they use themselves generally. These patterns were developed by the nervous system for very good reasons, as a way to compensate for injuries, sitting at a desk for years, playing one-sided sports, repetitive motion activities, etc., however these patterns may no longer be serving you as a whole, and may be causing discomfort and pain.
During a session, these patterns may show up. For example, clients may notice they apply excessive force when moving a certain way, or clench their teeth or jaw, hold their breath, lean to one side, favor one leg, hold their head forward or to a particular side, or organize themselves in other ways that feel “normal and familiar” and that they never really noticed before. Over time, these patterns cause an imbalance that translates as tension or pain, often showing up in entirely different parts of their body.
The Feldenkrais Method® can help guide a person away from these no longer useful physical habits that cause tension and pain and restore the body’s capacity for efficient, flexible, easeful and coordinated movement, without force or muscle training.
